Description
Optilast eye drops contain azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine applied directly to the eye. It blocks the H1 receptor in the surface of the eye and also has an effect on mast cells, easing the itching, redness and watering of allergic conjunctivitis, including the eye symptoms of hay fever. The usual dose is one drop into each affected eye twice a day, which a prescriber may increase if symptoms are not controlled.
Wash your hands, tilt your head back and pull down the lower lid to make a pocket for the drop, and do not let the dropper touch the eye or lashes. A brief bitter taste at the back of the throat after instilling the drop is common and harmless. Remove contact lenses before use. Tell your prescriber if the eye becomes painful, if vision changes, or if symptoms do not improve.
