Description

Perinal is a spray that combines lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, with hydrocortisone, a mild corticosteroid. The local anaesthetic numbs the area to ease pain and itching, and the corticosteroid reduces inflammation and swelling. It is used for the discomfort and itching of haemorrhoids and other irritation around the anus.

The spray delivers a measured dose, so it can be applied without touching a sore area. Hold the bottle upright, aim at the affected area and press once, then wash your hands. Because it contains a corticosteroid, it is intended for short-term use rather than for continuous treatment, and you should speak to the pharmacist if symptoms have not settled within a few days.

Tell the pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have any rectal bleeding that has not been assessed, or if the skin looks infected.
