Description
Premique is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy tablet. It contains conjugated oestrogens, which replace oestrogen that the ovaries no longer produce, together with medroxyprogesterone acetate, a progestogen that protects the lining of the womb from the thickening oestrogen alone can cause. One tablet is taken every day without a break, and this type of HRT is intended for women whose periods stopped some time ago, because continuous treatment is not expected to produce a monthly bleed.
Irregular bleeding or spotting is common in the first months and should be reported if it continues. HRT carries small increases in the risk of breast cancer, blood clots in the legs and lungs, and stroke, and the size of the risk depends on your age, how long you take it and your own history. It is not a contraceptive.
