Description
Qvar contains beclometasone dipropionate, an inhaled corticosteroid used as a preventer in asthma. Taken every day, it reduces the swelling and irritation in the airways that make symptoms and attacks more likely, and the benefit builds over days and weeks rather than appearing at once. It is not a reliever, so it will not ease sudden wheeze or breathlessness; keep a short-acting reliever inhaler for that.
The beclometasone in Qvar is extrafine, so the dose is not interchangeable with beclometasone inhalers that are not extrafine; do not switch brands without advice, and check the strength when you collect a new supply. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each dose to lower the chance of oral thrush and a hoarse voice.
Contact your prescriber if your symptoms worsen or your reliever is needed more often.
