Description
Durafiber is a gelling fibre wound dressing, supplied here as ten dressings measuring 5cm by 5cm. It is not a plaster and is not intended for everyday minor cuts. On contact with wound fluid the fibres form a soft gel that holds the fluid away from the wound bed, which is why dressings of this type are used on moderately to heavily exuding wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, surgical wounds healing by secondary intention and donor sites.
It is laid on the wound and held with a secondary dressing, because it has no adhesive of its own. It is not suitable for a dry wound. Wounds of this kind need proper assessment, and the choice of dressing and how often it is changed should be directed by a nurse or another clinician.
