Description
Symbicort Turbohaler contains budesonide, an inhaled corticosteroid, and formoterol, a long-acting beta-2 agonist, in one dry powder device. The steroid reduces airway inflammation and formoterol relaxes the muscle around the airways, so it is used as regular treatment for asthma where a combination inhaler is appropriate, and for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at certain strengths.
Some asthma regimens use the lower strengths as both the daily preventer and the inhaler taken when symptoms come on, but only where a prescriber has set that up and explained the maximum number of inhalations in a day. The device is breath-actuated, so you breathe in steadily and deeply through the mouthpiece; there is little to taste.
Rinse your mouth with water afterwards. Tell your prescriber about heart rhythm problems, thyroid disease, diabetes, low blood potassium or a history of tuberculosis.
