Description
Zoely is a combined oral contraceptive containing nomegestrol acetate 2.5mg and estradiol 1.5mg. It uses estradiol rather than ethinylestradiol as its oestrogen. It is licensed to prevent pregnancy and works mainly by preventing ovulation. Each pack of 28 tablets contains active tablets followed by inactive ones, taken in order with no break between packs, so one tablet is taken every day.
Absent periods are common with Zoely, and irregular bleeding can also occur, particularly in the first months. If a tablet is more than 12 hours late, extra precautions are needed; check the leaflet, because the advice depends on which week you are in. Combined pills raise the risk of venous and arterial blood clots. Zoely is not suitable if you have migraine with aura, a history of clot, or certain liver, heart and circulatory conditions. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
