Description

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which acts at both the GIP and the GLP-1 receptor. It is licensed as an addition to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight management in adults, and separately for the treatment of type 2 diabetes; your prescriber will tell you which applies to you. It is injected under the skin of the stomach, thigh or upper arm once a week, on the same day each week, with or without food.

Treatment starts at 2.5mg and the dose is increased in stages, with at least four weeks between steps. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation and reduced appetite are common, particularly after an increase. Tirzepatide can reduce the absorption of oral contraceptives, so additional contraception may be needed for a period after starting and after each dose increase.

Tell your prescriber about pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney problems or pregnancy.
