Description
PrenatalSAFE 5 is a non invasive prenatal screening test. It analyses cell free DNA from the placenta circulating in the mother’s blood and reports the chance that the pregnancy is affected by a small number of chromosome conditions, together with the sex chromosomes. It is taken from a stated week of pregnancy onwards, because enough placental DNA has to be present.
This is a screening test and not a diagnosis. A high chance result needs confirming by a diagnostic test such as chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis, and a low chance result does not guarantee the baby is unaffected. It does not look at every chromosome or genetic condition and does not detect structural abnormalities.
Results should be discussed with a clinician alongside your usual antenatal care.
