Description
Sirdupla is a pressurised inhaler containing fluticasone propionate, an inhaled corticosteroid, with salmeterol, a long-acting beta-2 agonist. The steroid calms the inflammation that underlies asthma and salmeterol keeps the airways open, so the two are taken together as regular treatment where a combination inhaler is appropriate.
It is a preventer used every day, usually one dose in the morning and one in the evening, and it is not for relieving a sudden attack; keep a short-acting reliever inhaler for that. Shake the inhaler before use, breathe out gently, then press and breathe in slowly. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out afterwards to reduce the risk of oral thrush and hoarseness.
Tell your prescriber if you have heart problems, an overactive thyroid, diabetes or a history of tuberculosis, and contact them if your reliever is needed more often than before.
