Description
Sereflo is a pressurised inhaler that combines two medicines. Fluticasone propionate is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways, and salmeterol is a long-acting beta-2 agonist that relaxes the muscle around them. The two are given together as regular treatment for asthma in people for whom a combination inhaler is appropriate.
It is a preventer taken every day, usually one dose in the morning and one in the evening, and it is not used to relieve a sudden attack; keep a short-acting reliever inhaler for that. Shake the inhaler before use, then rinse your mouth with water and spit it out afterwards to reduce the risk of oral thrush and hoarseness.
A spacer can help if you find it hard to match the puff to your breath. Tell your prescriber if you have heart problems, an overactive thyroid, diabetes or a history of tuberculosis.
