Vicks VapoDrops with Eucalyptus Oil are lozenges flavoured with eucalyptus, in a 72g pack, sold as confectionery rather than as a licensed medicine. Eucalyptus gives a sharp aromatic vapour that is noticeable at the back of the nose, which is why lozenges of this kind are reached for when a cold makes the head feel heavy, and sucking keeps the mouth moist at the same time.
Each lozenge is sucked slowly and left to dissolve, not chewed. They are taken one at a time rather than to a dose, and there is no benefit in working through a large number in a day. Whole lozenges can cause choking in young children. Speak to a pharmacist about a cough that has not settled after about three weeks, or a sore throat with a fever.
